01 March 2019

Yesterday, 1 March, Geneva's iconic Jet d'Eau shown blue in the evening sky and on the lake, lit up in honour of the Mine Ban Treaty's 20th anniversary.

ICBL joined Geneva Mayor, Sami Kanaan and treaty partners for an evening reception, following a day of celebration for the treaty's success in saving lives since its entry into force 20 years ago (see pictures of the event here).

This success has been possible through the powerful collaboration between civil society, International Committee of the Red Cross, States, the treaty Implementation Support Unit, and United Nations agencies.

The events kick off a joint campaign with treaty partners as the mine ban community prepares for its Fourth Review Conference taking place in Oslo, Norway later this year and hosted by the (Norwegian) Treaty Presidency.

The conference is an opporunity to address remaining challenges towards the 2025 goals of finishing the job of ensuring sustainable assistance and survivors rights and mine clearance, in affected communities.
