Three months until release of Landmine Monitor Report 2007

Landmine Monitor Report 2007, the ninth annual report of this unique civil society-based initiative, will be globally released on MONDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2007.

The report will be available online on 12 November at 01:00 GMT (www.icbl.org/lm/2007) and the global release event will be held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland at 9:00 GMT. A launch of the global mine action report findings, with emphasis on the Balkans, is being organized in Belgrade, Serbia.

A briefing on report findings in the Middle East/ North Africa will be held on 14 November in Amman, Jordan, and report findings will be presented to delegates at the Eighth Meeting of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty (8MSP) on 18 November at the Dead Sea, Jordan.

Campaigners and researchers are encouraged to organize local, national and regional release events on or after 12 November. This is an opportunity to share report findings with media, government representatives, the diplomatic community, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and the general public.

We hope that release events will help to generate media interest, to draw attention to progress made to date, and to highlight issues of concern to follow-up on in your countries.

Landmine Monitor can do the following to support your release events:

  • Send you Landmine Monitor postcards and posters
  • Mail you copies of the Landmine Monitor Annual Report and Executive Summary (including CD-ROM) or bring copies to the 8MSP to collect there
  • Provide you with a media kit in Arabic, English, French, Russian and Arabic
  • Make available a Power Point presentation summarizing global report findings

As you begin planning your release events, please provide us with the following information:

  • Release date, time and location
  • List of speakers and participants
  • Overview of program
  • Contact person

Landmine Monitor will be in contact with those organizing release events in the coming months to support release preparations.
