Canadian activist Miles Meili is driving a truck-load of wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, solar panels and other supplies to Managua, Nicaragua for landmine survivors. These materials will be used by a program run by the Falls Brook Centre of New Brunswick, Canada.
The focus of this program is to provide rehabilitation and job skills related to solar power for landmine survivors. Approximately 40% of Nicaragua is without electricity and the trainees will be able to return to their communities and help bring light to community centres and health clinics.
While in the United States, Miles is speaking about landmines to community groups, raising awareness and generating support for the Mine Ban Treaty. The next scheduled stop is in Nashville, Tennessee on the 7th of December. The Ban Van will arrive in Texas in the third week of December and continue south to Nicaragua in January.
