6TH MEETING OF STATES PARTIES TO THE MINE BAN TREATY TO TAKE PLACE IN ZAGREB, CROATIA, FROM 28 NOVEMBER TO 2 DECEMBER 2005
Around six hundred delegates representing over 100 countries and dozens of international and non-governmental organizations are expected in Zagreb, Croatia, from 28 November to 2 December 2005, for the 6th Meeting of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty
This annual meeting provides the first formal opportunity to assess the implementation of the Nairobi Action Plan 2005-2009, an ambitious
70-commitment plan adopted by States Parties in 2004 to ensure that the scourge of antipersonnel mines is finally and definitely overcome.
With a delegation of over 180 people representing the diversity of its coalition and including landmine survivors,
the International Campaign to Ban Landmines will urge leaders to:
- Secure further progress in identifying and clearing mined areas within established deadlines
- Fully address the needs and rights of landmine survivors to help recreate their lives
- Ensure that all Treaty obligations are fully respected
- Ensure that the ban on antipersonnel mines remains a high priority
The media will be informed of photo and interview opportunities over the next week.
