Olympic medalists, members of royalty, Nobel laureates and Heads of State and Foreign Ministers are amongst the delegates gathering in the Kenyan capital for the Nairobi Summit on a Mine-Free World.
- Champion long distance runners from Kenya and Ethiopia, Paul Tergat and Haile Gebrselassie, will run for a mine-free world on Saturday 25 November.
- Prince Mired Bin Ra'ad of Jordan will open a summit of landmine survivors on 26 November.
- Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jody Williams will address delegates at an opening ceremony on Sunday 26 November.
- Five Nobel Peace Prize laureates will talk about building peace in today's troubled world on 1 December. More...
- Heads of State, Foreign Ministers, heads of UN agencies and other high level delegates will speak on the closing days of the Summit, 2 and 3 December.
It is hoped that these VIPs will use the opportunity to renew political and financial commitments to the Mine Ban Treaty and undertake to continue their important work to eliminate antipersonnel landmines.
