Ten Years of the Mine Ban Treaty: Campaigners Around the World Celebrate the Success and Call for More Progress Towards a Mine-free World

The 1997 Mine Ban Treaty was the result of efforts of individuals and groups around the world, committed to changing a vision into reality. To celebrate these efforts and commitment the ICBL launched the 10th Anniversary Support Program to support national campaigns in the organization of anniversary events and further advocacy work at the national level.

Between September 2007 and March 2008, some 20 campaigns from Azerbaijan to Zambia, held events and carried out longer term projects under the “Success in Progress” slogan, aimed primarily at engaging national authorities on universalization and implementation of the Mine Ban Treaty, and on the cluster munitions process. Activities organized by national campaigns included conferences, round-tables, workshops, public hearings, photo exhibitions, petitions, film screenings, national launches of Landmine Monitor Report 2007, public events and stunts, publications, and media work.

Under the 10th Anniversary support program, events took place in: Azerbaijan, Brazil , Cambodia, Colombia, DR Congo, Greece, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Zambia. A regional event was also organized in Southeast Asia.
