States Parties 161 States Not Party 36
Representatives of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty, some states not party, international organizations, UN agencies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and ICBL members gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, from 29 November - 3 December 2010 to assess challenges in the universalization and full implementation of the Mine Ban Treaty. The ICBL delegation included some 120 campaigners from 33 countries.
The Tenth Meeting of the States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty (10MSP) took place one year after States Parties, international organizations, civil society and others took part in the Second Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty in Cartagena, Colombia. The Cartagena Summit on a Mine-Free World was a remarkable event that allowed to look back with satisfaction on progress made in addressing the landmine problem, and to celebrate the power of a treaty that has inspired so much dedicated effort year after year.
At the same time, the Cartagena Summit was a forward-looking event that clearly demonstrated the significant amount of work that remains to be done. States pledged through the Cartagena Declaration that they would stay committed in the coming years, and the Cartagena Action Plan provided a set of concrete steps for States Parties to take forward that commitment in all the key areas of the Mine Ban Treaty. The 10MSP was the first formal occasion to measure states' progress in putting the Cartagena Action Plan into place.
