The "Komalah The Kurdistan Organization of the Communist Party of Iran" and the "Komala Party of Kurdistan" declared they will not use antipersonnel landmines, Swiss-based NGO Geneva Call announced in a press release on 7 April 2009.
In February 2009, members of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) convened in Managua, Nicaragua to conduct advocacy and outreach in support of the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty.
In June 2006, Mosha was seven months old when she stepped on a landmine while following her mother who was hauling logs in Burma/Myanmar. The injury severely mangled her right front leg which eventually required amputation.
President Obama signed a law on 11 March 2009 that permanently bans nearly all cluster bomb exports from the United States. This moves the United States one step closer to the position of the 95 states that have already signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, renouncing the use, production and trade of this weapon forever.

A MINE-FREE WORLD: MISSION POSSIBLE - The Mine Ban Treaty entered into force on 1 March 1999, after the 40 required ratifications were deposited to the UN Secretary General. Ten years since its entry into force the Treaty has clearly made a difference in the lives of individuals and communities living in mine-affected areas.
On 12-15 Nov. 2008, the Ban Bus crew urged Poland to give up antipersonnel mines and cluster munitions.

After riding his bike for 4,800 km across 13 countries in Europe and the Middle East, Swiss cyclist Armin Köhli - a double amputee - will reach today the Jordanian shores of the Dead Sea. His arrival is timed for the opening of the Eighth Meeting of States Parties, which will begin tomorrow in Jordan.
