Intersessional Standing Committee Meetings
Update 2, Tuesday 3 June 2008
Victim Assistance and Socio-Economic Reintegration (Art. 6.3)
The majority of the VA 24 States reported on the status of implementation of their national programs on victim assistance. Regrettably most of the interventions were general and indicated no much progress, if at all. There were only a few VA experts on the delegations in the room, and only one survivor/person with disability among the governmental delegations.
Jordan has joined the VA 24 group, which now is being referred to as the VA 25.
The ICBL made two strong interventions on inclusion, calling on states to fulfill their commitments under the Convention; and on the reporting on victim assistance, which is still lagging behind.
