Seventh Meeting of the States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty - Geneva,18-22 September 2006
Geneva, 8 September 2006 - Government representatives, landmine survivors, international agencies, mine action operators and civil society campaigners from over 100 countries will gather in Geneva in the coming weeks for high-level events related to the worldwide struggle against landmines. Launch of Landmine Monitor Report 2006 - Wednesday 13 September 2006, 10:00 - Salle III, Palais des Nations
Landmine Monitor is a civil society monitoring initiative focusing on the adherence to and implementation of the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Its eighth annual report includes the latest findings on 126 countries and areas. Panellists will include ICBL Head of Delegation Stephen Goose and Landmine Monitor Final Editor Ian Doucet. Landmine Monitor thematic editors and researchers will be available to respond to questions and conduct interviews. Seventh Meeting of the States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty - 18-22 September 2006 - Salle XVII, Palais des Nations
The meeting focuses on the implementation of obligations under the Mine Ban Treaty, with particular emphasis on the clearance of mined areas, destruction of stockpiled mines, victim assistance, and mine risk education. ICBL-sponsored activities include:
