8th Meeting of the States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty, Jordan, 18-22 November

Amman, 22 November - The Eighth Meeting of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty concluded today in Jordan, one of only seven states parties to the treaty in the Middle East and North Africa. The meeting was attended by 115 countries as well as representatives from civil society and international agencies. Over 250 members of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), also attended the meeting.

Cycling from Geneva to the Dead Sea

After riding his bike for 4,800 km across 13 countries in Europe and the Middle East, Swiss cyclist Armin Köhli - a double amputee - will reach today the Jordanian shores of the Dead Sea. His arrival is timed for the opening of the Eighth Meeting of States Parties, which will begin tomorrow in Jordan.

8th Meeting of the States Parties Reinvigorates Mine Ban Treaty

States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty will gather for their annual meeting by the shores of the Dead Sea in Jordan from 18 to 22 November. This is the first time a Meeting of States Parties takes place in the Middle East, where adherence to the treaty remains particularly low despite recent accessions by Kuwait and Iraq.
