Sunday, November 29th

There are three field trips scheduled that demonstrate various aspects of mine action and two special events:

06:00-16:00 "A Window on Reality" Victim Assistance Fieldtrip to Carmen del Bolivar

Hosted by Handicap International. Media and delegates are invited to talk with Colombian survivors and learn about the cultural history and the evolution of the internal conflict in Montes de Maria. They will visit of the Hospital Nuestra Senora del Carmen and discuss the role of the institutions in the rehabilitation of landmine survivors. Mine risk education initiatives will also be presented. 07:30-15:30 "Dive with us!" Victim Assistance Fieldtrip to Islas del Rosario

Participants will join landmine survivors in enjoying the unique experience of diving at Islas del Rosario. This innovative activity for the psychosocial rehabilitation of landmine survivors and other persons with disabilities puts them in a completely new environment, provides them tools for their life, and also the likelihood of changing their paradigm regarding their disability, in communion with the biodiversity and the marine beauty of Colombia. 07:00 - 15:00 "Sembrarte en Portonaito" Victim Assistance Fieldtrip to Islas del Rosario

In Portonaito, participants will have an unforgettable experience sampling the rehabilitation and leadership process being performed with children and young people with disabilities. They will have the opportunity to sail, kayak, rappel, watch the sea or simply have a powerful conversation with survivors. This activities main purpose is to share new and more efficient ways to live daily life thereby contributing to the achievement of psychosocial rehabilitation. 08:00-12:00 CARTAGENA 5K Race for Mine-Free World, located Inside Cartagena's old city

The "Cartagena 5K" race is part of the "More Sports, Less Landmines" strategy designed and promoted by Colombia's Presidential Programme for Comprehensive Action against Anti-personnel Mines. This strategy promotes the participation of persons with disabilities in sports events as part of a comprehensive strategy for rehabilitation and social inclusion. The race also aims to involve Cartagena's citizens in the fight against anti-personnel mines and to promote the rights of persons with disabilities. Cartagena Summit participants are invited to join landmine survivors and other persons with disabilities in a fascinating race that will run along the city walls of Cartagena. 18:00 - 19:30 Cartagena Summit on a Mine-Free World: Opening Ceremony at Getsemani Auditorio

The Cartagena Summit's Opening Ceremony will include a keynote address by ICBL Youth Ambassador and Cambodia survivor, Song Kosal, in addition to featuring two dance companies that will perform three pieces of inclusive dance. Both companies promote the participation of persons with disabilities in dance, and provide opportunities for inclusion for Colombians with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities. Monday, November 30th

9:00-9:30 Daily Press Briefing, Salon Pegasus, organized by the Implementation Support Unit

10:00-10:30 Nobel Laureate Jody Williams opens the Youth Leaders Forum, Comision 1

Jody Williams will address a group of 35 aspiring young civil society leaders from 25 countries who will be participating in a week-long training program alongside the Cartagena Summit.

13:00-13:30 Opening Press Conference, Salon Pegasus, hosted by Colombia, Norway, ICBL and the ICRC

13:30-14:30 Overcoming Victimhood Roundtable, Comision 4

Victims in many countries remain in a state of victimhood, waiting for reparation and frequently experiencing additional victimization caused by a lack of understanding of their condition, by stigmatization or by difficulty in moving on with their lives. This roundtable discussion will feature survivors who have overcome or are in the process of overcoming their situation as victims, experts in the field of victim assistance and policy makers discussing the theme of overcoming victimhood. Experiences from around the world will be shared with special attention given to the Colombian context, key issues identified, and potential future actions proposed. This event is hosted by Survivor Corps and the Centro Integral de Rehabilitación de Colombia (CIREC).Note: This event will already be in progress by 13:30 but media are welcome to join.

14:30-14:45 Launch of Italian photographer, Giovanni Diffidenti's photo exhibition, "The Legacy of the Perfect Soldier"

Tuesday, December 1 st

9:00-9:30 Daily Press Briefing, Salon Pegasus, organized by Implementation Support Unit

10:00-10:30 Launch of the Victim Assistance Parallel Programme, Comision 2 + 3

This 2-day programme is primarily designed as a forum for survivor campaigners, experts, advocates and government delegates to share information and seek strategies and action that could tangibly improve the situation of victim assistance. Over 50 delegates from over 25 countries are expected to participate.

13:00-15:00 Good practices and lessons learned in gender sensitive mine action projects, Comisión 2.

The event will focus on practical examples from the field illustrating how gender mainstreaming benefits mine. UN field practitioners will provide operational and inter-agency coordination perspectives while non-governmental organizations will provide an implementing perspective with practical examples from field programmes. This event is hosted by the UN Mine Action Team, the ICBL and the Swiss Campaign to Ban Landmines. Interviews with ICBL's gender experts available on request.

Wednesday, December 2nd

9:00-9:30 Daily Press Briefing, Salon Pegasus, organized by Implementation Support Unit

08:00 - 09:30 Successful experiences in the care and rehabilitation of children and young victims of landmines in Colombia, Hotel Santa Theresa

This workshop will explore CIREC's successful practice in rehabilitation/integration and illustrate how religion and religious leaders have much to offer a holistic healing process and social reintegration. The faith community and place of worship is often a centerpiece in societies and an ideal place to develop programmes and actions that give support to survivors. Helping women, men, girls and boys with disabilities to claim their rights and become active citizens is one of the most powerful ways that religious leaders and communities can improve the lives of survivors. This event will include survivors and representatives of CIREC, as well religious leaders from Africa and Asia. Interviews with ICBL faith-based campaigners available upon request. This event is hosted by the Centro Integral de Rehabilitación de Colombia (CIREC) and Religions for Peace.

13:00 - 15:00 Briefing on the Convention on Cluster Munitions, Salon Pegasus

This event will update delegations on global efforts to promote the swift entry into force and universal
adherence to the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions. States have been invited to provide an update on their efforts to sign, ratify or take national steps to implement the Convention. The Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC), the UN and the ICRC will also provide an update on their work on the Convention. Interviews with CMC spokespeople are available upon request. This event is hosted by the Cluster Munition Coalition, Colombia and the Lao PDR.

13:00-15:00 The USA and Landmines, Comisión 1

This event will explore the US position on antipersonnel landmines. A range of civil society speakers will discuss the status of US policy, including actions that can be taken to urge the Obama Administration to join the Convention. Interviews with US campaigners available upon request.

18:30 - 22:00 "Rumble in Cartagena" Quad Rugby Match, Colegio Salesianos

December 3rd marks the anniversary of the signing of both the Mine Ban Treaty and the Convention on Cluster Munitions as well as International Day of Persons with Disabilities. On the eve of this day, a celebratory event will take place that weaves a memorable sports game with words by key figures in promoting victim assistance and the rights of persons with disabilities. After the game, spectators will have the chance to have a hands-on experience with quad rugby, also known as wheelchair rugby. This event is hosted by Hosted by Survivor Corps, the ICBL, the CMC and Fundacion Arcangeles.

Thursday, December 3rd

10:00-14:00 High-level segment of the Cartagena Summit begins

Updates on the speaking order of dignitaries will be provided at the daily press briefing.

13:00-15:00 The Middle East and North Africa: 10 years of mine action, Salon Pegasus

This briefing/debate is intended to discuss efforts in mine action in the Middle East and North Africa in the last 10 years, challenges, lessons learned, opportunities and the future of mine action in the region. This event is hosted by Protection. Interviews are available upon request with campaigners, survivors and experts from Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Algeria, Jordan, Yemen, Syria and Kuwait.

13:00-15:00 All the Voices, Getsemani Auditorio

Colombian singer Juanes, and Nobel Laureate Jody Williams will lead an open discussion with Colombian survivors about their stories of life and hope. This will be an opportunity for the audience to understand the reality of a vulnerable population whose voice is not always heard.

15:00-18:00 High-level segment of the Cartagena Summit

Updates on the speaking order of dignitaries will be provided at the daily press briefing. Mine survivors from across the world will read the Survivors' Declaration at the end of the session.

Friday, December 4th

10:00-14:00 High-level segment of the Cartagena Summit

Updates on the speaking order of dignitaries will be provided at the daily press briefing.

13:00-15:00 Visit to the REI Foundation Rehabilitation Centre, Fundación REI

Delegates and media are invited to visit the Fundación REI Rehabilitation Centre that provides physical and psychological rehabilitation as well as other services through an interdisciplinary approach aimed at promoting the self-sufficiency of persons with disabilities, including mine survivors. This event is hosted by the Government of Colombia and pre-registration is required. Contact hildafierro@presidencia.gov.co.

13:00-15:00 Perspective for a Latin America free of landmines: next steps, Salon Pegasus

This event will identify practical measures to be taken towards full implementation of the Convention in Latin America, in the framework of the Cartagena Action Plan. Measures to be discussed will include field actions as well as policy recommendations and national plans of action on humanitarian demining, victim assistance and transparency. Hosted by Latin American members of the ICBL. Interviews are available with campaigners from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Uruguay.

15:00-18:00 Closing session of Cartagena Summit

The closing session of the Summit will include a Youth Declaration from the Youth Leaders Forum.
