Thursday 25 November

9:00 – 10:00 Opening of InternationalYouthCapacityBuilding in Mine Action Symposium – In Our Lifetime

Photo opportunity:

  • Shot of Nairobi Summit President-Designate Ambassador Petritsch and Canadian Ambassador for Mine Action Ambassador Ross Hynes opening the first-ever gathering of 39 young activists at an official Mine Ban Treaty meeting representing 23 countries. This initiative grew out of a Canadian youth outreach programme on landmines, the Youth Mine Action Ambassador Program

Saturday 27 November

Sunday 28 November

10:00 – 12:30 Survivor Summit, Intercontinental Hotel

  • Shot of landmine survivors – in wheelchairs, on crutches or with other less visible injuries – welcoming diplomats to the discussion.
  • Shot of high-level diplomats seated face-to-face with the survivors, listening and respond to their calls.

13:30 Sculpture unveiling with ICBL ambassadors, lawn outside Kenyatta International Conference Centre

Photo opportunity:

14:30 Opening ceremony for the NairobiSummit, Kenyatta International Conference Centre

Monday 29 November

Wednesday 1 December

  • Six Laureates, seated on a panel in front of a bold backdrop bearing the slogan “WANTED – a mine-free world”, speak about building peace: Wangari Maathai, Shirin Ebadi, Jody Williams, President Jakob Kellenberger of the International Committee of the Red Cross and a representative of the United Nations.

Thursday 2 December

10:00 World leaders address Summit, United Nations Office at Nairobi, Room 2 (throughout the day, order of speakers to be confirmed)

Photo opportunities:

  • Heads of State and Ministers of Treaty member states address the Summit
  • Observers from non-treaty member states (e.g. China and India) address delegates
  • Co-laureate Jody Williams of the ICBL, young activists and landmine survivors deliver statements to world leaders.

13:30 – 15:00 Launch of the international “Working with Youth in Mine Action Manual”, UN, Lower outside lawn in tent

Photo opportunity:

  • The Governor-General of Canada, Adrienne Clarkson, is presented with a copy of the manual by a youth symposium representative signed by all contributors from around the world

Friday 3 December

14:30 – 15:00 International Day of Disabled Persons celebration, United Nations Office at Nairobi, near Room 2

Photo opportunity:

  • Landmines survivors from 30 countries celebrate International Day of Disabled Persons: handing out cake to Summit delegates as they file past for the closing session.

15:00 Closing ceremony, United Nations Office at Nairobi, Room 2
