This section of the National Survey of Disability in Afghanistan concludes that persons with disabilities have major difficulties to access employment and livelihoods. The report focuses on identifying differences between households with and without persons with disabilities in terms of revenue, with the goal of better understanding why persons with disabilities are not only the poorest in Afghanistan but also the most vulnerable.

This document presents the education section of the National Disability Survey carried out by Handicap International in Afghanistan. It demonstrates that schools remain inaccessible for a part of the Afghan population, mainly girls and children with disabilities. Recommendations include awareness raising among parents and teachers to ensure the inclusion of these children in mainstream schools

This refers to a process whereby the economic development of the individual survivor is tied to a plan to better the economic situation of the community of which he/she is a member. In this strategy, a community plan is worked out whereby plans are developed, in which, either the plans specifically are concerned with the place of the survivors in the development of the economy of the community at large or where the plan involves the betterment of the community as a whole under the stipulation that survivors must be included in the overall plan for the community. These plans generally involve utilizing a planning strategy where community residents are asked to provide ideas and interests. NGO staff assists the community to develop specific plans to meet realistic ideas engendered. The planning process includes conducting market studies to insure that the business ventures being contemplated are truly viable under current and anticipated market conditions

This document presents a model used by Handicap International in Nicaragua to improve the participation of persons with disabilities in society. The experience is based on a post-emergency experience, after the Mitch hurricane affected the Tipitapa province. It includes a description of the activities on support to community development, community-based rehabilitation, and links towards other related activities in the municipality. It includes an in-depth analysis of the project as a whole to provide a model to facilitate the inclusion of persons with disabilities in local-level development

World Vision International has been helping the disabled in Cambodia since the early 1970s. The author emphasizes that a focus on a socio-economic approach to victim assistance is important to ensure successful rehabilitation of the disabled.
