A joint program was launched in 1990 by the ICRC and the Myanmar Red Cross Society to assist forgotten mine victims in Myanmar (formerly Burma). ICRC doctors help amputees in need of treatment to travel to one of the country's only two hospitals where they can be fitted with artificial limbs and rehabilitated. The organization also provides technical assistance and trains local orthopaedic technicians.
