1 March 2003 marked the fourth anniversary of the entry into force of the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. The date was also important because it was the first deadline for many States Parties to comply with one of the convention’s core obligations: destruction of stockpiled antipersonnel mines. With the Review Conference in 2004 in mind, this fact sheet is an initial attempt to illustrate the status of implementation of the convention by all States Parties. This analysis is based on Article 7 transparency measures reports, and statements by States Parties made at diplomatic conferences, standing committee meetings, in parliament, and in communications with Landmine Monitor researchers.
