to: all campaigners
from: liz
re: jody asked me to forward a message to all of you about some
of her recent fundraising activities, so that you all "have a sense
of some initiatives taken by people who want to help", so hear it is.
------- Forwarded Message Follows -------
1) austria -- i will just remind everyone that a national fundraising
campaign in austria for mine for mine victims raised over $2 million dollars
between its launch in may, which steve goose and i participated in, and the
summer.
2) italy -- 'song for peace in the world' is an initiative to raise money
for clearance operations and victim assistance; it is a 'competition' for
songs about peace and the concert will be held in rome in???
3) canada -- from 30 october - 2 november i was in canada in support of an
initiative by classicial musicians 'consort caritatis' to raise money for
mine victims through a benefit concert of the verdi 'requium' which was just
held on sunday and then the sale of the cd, which was launched with the
concert. money will go through mcc and world vision canada. cd's will be
highlighted throughout the major music store chain in canada. i was able to
do several tv spots, radio and print, as well as a national canadian talk
show in support of this initiative. they anticipate being able to
contribute $175,000 for victims. all of the $125,000 production cost for
the cd and the concert was donated money or in-kind by musicians. it was an
extremely inspiring event and the enthusiasm of these people was wonderful
to share.
other:
rather surprisingly, i was asked to receive an award this year at the
kennedy center for being a 'peacemaker' from a dc foundation called the
'olender foundation.' i have accepted because the foundation makes a
charitable contribution in my name, preferably to an organization in this
area. they have agreed to give $25,000 to human rights watch in washington
for its work on the landmine monitor.
finally, i have decided to donate my $10,000 honorarium for the upcoming
nobel laureates conference for the production of the landmine monitor report.
that's it for the moment. it is my intention to provide a more complete
report of my various campaign activities throughout this year at the end of
the year.
