ICBL advocacy visit to Poland highlights need for further, sustained engagement

Indonesia Expected to Ratify Mine Ban Treaty Before End of Year

Landmine Awareness Days in Warsaw, Poland: 27 November - 6 December 2006

In the run up to the 9th anniversary of Poland's signature of the Mine Ban Treaty on 4 December 1997, the Polish Red Cross is organizing a series of landmine awareness days with the aim to mobilise public opinion and generate political pressure to urge the authorities to ratify the treaty.

Greece: TV show advances campaign for survivors' rights

Survivors of minefields on the borders between Greece and Turkey got a chance to get their stories heard through two days of morning programming on private TV channel Mega. After the show, a group of survivors will be received by the Minister of Health and Deputy Minister of Defence.

Human Rights Watch addresses CCW conference on the issue of landmines

Geneva, 6 November 2006 - ICBL member Human Rights Watch addressed the 8th Annual Conference of States Parties to CCW Amended Protocol II which establishes prohibitions or restrictions on the use of mines, booby-traps and other devices. Many States not Party to the Mine Ban Treaty have often expressed the opinion that the Amended Protocol II deals adequately with antipersonnel mines. As outlined in the statement by Human Right Watch, the ICBL does not believe that this is the case.
