Brussels International Conference for the Total Ban

The "Brussels International Conference for the Total Ban on Anti-
Personnel Landmines," held from 24-27 June 1997 in Brussels,
Belgium, was a key event in the Mine Ban Treaty negotiation process.
A total of 150 governments participated, of which 110 countries signed
the "Brussels Declaration" pledging to negotiate the Mine Ban Treaty
in Oslo and to sign the treaty in December. This report also includes
brief reports on the outcome of diplomatic meetings held earlier in
1997 in Vienna, Austria from 12-14 February and in Bonn, Germany
from 24-25 April.
