kosalHelp Survivors Now!
Today I have been very busy selling goods at the 6MSP. The goods come from Cambodia and are made by survivors. We have bags and sarongs, and they come in lots of different colours. The money raised from the goods goes to help the survivors. I have really enjoyed selling the goods because it has given me an opportunity to talk and meet many people. This afternoon I was able to attend the Victim Assistance briefing. Tun Channareth spoke at this meeting about victims assistance for survivors. In specific he spoke about a few families in Cambodia who are survivors and are very poor and in need of immediate help. When I listen to him speaking about the families I feel very sad and tears came to my eyes. The families are very poor and the survivors don’t have anyone to help take care of them, so they stay alone, and that really saddens me. Added on 01/12/2005 4:22 pm. No comments have been added. Opening Ceremony!Hello My name is Song Kosal, I am 21 years old and I am from Cambodia. Ten years ago I spoke at the UN in Vienna, and asked the countries to ban landmines so that all of the children in the world could play and dance in the fields without any fears of mines, because I lost my leg to a landmine when I was very young. Today I am the Youth Ambassador for the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. Last night we went to the Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, Croatia for the opening ceremonies of the 6th Meeting of States Parties to the Ottawa Convention. I met alot of people that came from many different countries to attend the opening ceremonies. The President of Croatia also spoke during the ceremony. The most exciting part of the night was the Croatian folk dances. I like dancing very much, but when I watched the dancers I couldnt help but think of all of the children and adults that live in mine affected countries and can no longer dance, because they are missing a limb like me. While we are at this meeting, we are asking all of the people who might read this to make sure their governments will continue to help children and people in mine-affected communities to have a good and safe future.
