The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), 1997 Nobel Peace Prize Co-laureate, is a coalition of over 1300 member organizations in 80 countries working to ban landmines and support mine clearance and victim assistance projects. The ICBL has a small staff working worldwide, with two staff members located in its Washington, DC office.
The ICBL is currently seeking one energetic and organized individual to intern at the Washington, DC office on Capitol Hill from late August-October 2004. The position can be either part-time or full time, flexible hours and is unsalaried. The ICBL covers Metro fare to get to and from the office.
The Campaign and Resources Interns will:
- Provide campaigns and individuals with needed resources and materials;
- Assist in drafting country-specific advocacy pages for the ICBL website;
- Maintain and organize campaign resources;
- Assist with website maintenance;
- Draft letters, action alerts and other documents;
- Compile media reports;
- Support ICBL logistical preparations for the Mine Ban Treaty Review Conference; and,
- Assist with office maintenance and additional projects as requested.
We are looking for university students with:
- Activist experience and a strong desire to work towards a mine-free world;
- Superb English written and oral communication skills;
- Strong research skills;
- Strong computer skills and basic database and website design and maintenance skills;
- The ability to take initiative on projects and work independently with little supervision;
- Fluency in languages other than English is an asset; and,
- The ability to be creative, flexible and adaptable.
