Symposium on Anti-Personnel Mines

One of the first international conferences on landmines, the
International Committee of the Red Cross hosted a "Symposium on
Anti-Personnel Mines" was held in Montreux, Switzerland from 21-23
April 1993. This symposium brought together specialists from diverse
backgrounds to study the various problems caused by mines and to
consider the most effective means to improve the situation. This
report contains information on mine use and trade, the humanitarian
consequences of landmines, technical characteristics of mines,
demining and the military attitude towards mines. The
recommendations from this report were discussed at the First NGO
Conference on Anti-Personnel Mines, held in London, United Kingdom
later in 1993.
