One of the first international conferences on landmines, theInternational Committee of the Red Cross hosted a "Symposium onAnti-Personnel Mines" was held in Montreux, Switzerland from 21-23April 1993. This symposium brought together specialists from diversebackgrounds to study the various problems caused by mines and toconsider the most effective means to improve the situation. Thisreport contains information on mine use and trade, the humanitarianconsequences of landmines, technical characteristics of mines,demining and the military attitude towards mines. Therecommendations from this report were discussed at the First NGOConference on Anti-Personnel Mines, held in London, United Kingdomlater in 1993.
