How to setup my spam filter?

Your ICBL e-mail account comes with the ability to treat spam or unsolicited e-mails. While it is not 100% perfect it should make the spam problem easier to handle. Please note that you will most likely still receive some spam and occasionally real messages might be wrongly marked as spam.

Mark the spam

  1. Go to http://mail.icbl.org
  2. Click the MailAdmin link in the left margin
  3. Login with your user/e-mail and password
  4. Under bullet 3 Spam Control (after Account Information and Forwards/Vacation Options) check Enable SpamAssassin.
  5. Click Modify Email Account at the bottom

This makes all spam come through as normal mail, but the subject will be changed to include *****SPAM*****. This can then be used to sort the spam to a special folder in your e-mail client (like Outlook or Eudora).

Sort or discard the spam on the server

These steps will make the ICBL server handle your spam so it never comes to your inbox. Repeat the steps above and make sure you have checked Enable SpamAssassin then do either of the following at the very bottom of the page under Spam Delivery :

  1. Delete directly
Select Delete Spam if you trust the spamfilter to never discard any real messages (recommended to do this after you have tried
  2. Delay delete (recommended)
Select Move to folder and thereafter Trash if you want the spam messages to be kept for as many days as you've set your trash to be kept (Set under preferences once logged in on your webmail.) NB! In order to see the Trash folder when setting up your spamfilter you must have signed in to your webmail once after the account has been created.
  3. Keep in separate folder
First create the folder you want to use in your webmail then come here to select that folder using the steps under B.
Mind you that this will leave the messages on the server and take of your total e-mail quota so you would want to open the webmail every once in a while to delete the spam.
Any folder you use here can be accessed with an e-mail using IMAP.

Remember to click Modify Email Account at the bottom once you have made your settings.

NB! The Move To option is not available if you have never signed in to your webmail.
