Bahrain has not acceded to the Mine Ban Treaty. No new statements or actions on landmines were recorded in 2000 or 2001. Bahrain did not respond to Landmine Monitor’s requests for updated information. While it did not participate in any landmine-related meetings, Bahrain did vote in favor of the November 2000 UN General Assembly resolution calling for universalization of the Mine Ban Treaty, as it had done on similar pro-ban resolutions in previous years. Bahrain is not party to the Convention on Conventional Weapons (CCW).
Bahrain is not believed to have produced or exported antipersonnel mines. It remains one of just a handful of countries for which Landmine Monitor does not have a clear indication whether antipersonnel mines are stockpiled. It appears, however, that the United States maintains a stockpile in Bahrain of 3,124 US antipersonnel mines contained in 142 CBU-89 Gator air-delivered mixed mine dispensers.[487] The US also stockpiles 141 Claymore mines in Bahrain.
Bahrain is not mine-affected. It has not contributed to mine action programs.
