DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Key developments since May 2000: The Dominican Republic ratified the Mine Ban Treaty on 30 June 2000.

The Dominican Republic signed the Mine Ban Treaty on 3 December 1997, ratified on 30 June 2000 and the treaty entered into force on 1 December 2000. It is not believed to have enacted domestic implementation legislation and has not yet submitted its initial Article 7 transparency report, due 30 May 2001. The Dominican Republic attended the Second Meeting of States Parties in September 2000 and also participated in intersessional Standing Committee meetings in December 2000 and May 2001. The Dominican Republic voted in support of UN General Assembly Resolution 55/33v. It is not believed to have ever produced, transferred, stockpiled or used antipersonnel mines and is not mine-affected.
