TUVALU

Tuvalu, formerly known as the Ellice Islands, has not acceded to the Mine Ban Treaty. In March 2000, it expressed an interest in joining the Mine Ban Treaty and requested more information, which was provided by the ICBL and the government of Canada.^[1] Landmine Monitor could not obtain any updated information on any steps taken toward accession in the reporting period. Tuvalu is not a member of the United Nations and therefore has not voted on any of the relevant UNGA resolutions on landmines. Tuvalu is believed to have never produced, transferred, stockpiled or used antipersonnel mines. Tuvalu has a slight problem with UXO from World War II.
