Brunei Darussalam signed the Mine Ban Treaty on 4 December 1997, but has not yet ratified. In June 2003, Canadian officials visited Brunei to discuss treaty ratification with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense. Brunei did not attend any international Mine Ban Treaty meetings in 2002 or the first half of 2003, but representatives participated in the regional seminar on landmines in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 26-28 March 2003. On 22 November 2002, Brunei voted in favor of UN General Assembly Resolution 57/74, which called for universalization of the Mine Ban Treaty. Brunei has stated that it has never used, produced, or exported antipersonnel mines, but has a small landmine stockpile.[1] Brunei is not mine-affected. It did not contribute to any international mine action programs in 2002.
