Haiti signed the Mine Ban Treaty on 3 December 1997, but has not yet ratified. In June 2002, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said the ratification procedure was on a “fast track” and ratification documents had been sent to the office of President Jean Bertrand Aristide.[1] Haiti did not attend any Mine Ban Treaty-related meetings in the reporting period, but on 22 November 2002 it voted in support of UN General Assembly Resolution 57/74, calling for universalization of the Mine Ban Treaty. Haiti has never produced, imported, stockpiled or used antipersonnel mines and is not mine-affected.[2]
