LM Report 2006

Acknowledgments

A broad-based network of individuals, campaigns and organizations produced this eighth annual Landmine Monitor report. It was assembled by a dedicated team of research coordinators and editors, with the support of a significant number of donors.

This report contains country and area updates written by 71 Landmine Monitor researchers from 62 countries, selected by the Landmine Monitor Editorial Board with input from Thematic Research Coordinators. The researchers are cited separately in the List of Contributors. Landmine Monitor is grateful to everyone who contributed research to this report, especially those who provided updated reports at their own cost. We wish to thank the scores of individuals, campaigns, non-governmental and international organizations, mine action practitioners, and governments who provided us with essential information.

We are grateful to the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) staff for providing the ICBL entry and for their continued and crucial assistance in the release, distribution and promotion of the annual Landmine Monitor reports and fact sheets.

Responsibility for the coordination of Landmine Monitor’s reporting network lies with the four Editorial Board organizations: Mines Action Canada (Paul Hannon) manages Landmine Monitor’s production and editing; Handicap International (Stan Brabant) coordinates research on mine risk education and survivor assistance; Human Rights Watch (Stephen Goose) is responsible for ban policy; and Norwegian People’s Aid (Stuart Maslen) coordinates research on mine action. Jackie Hansen manages the project and Ian Doucet is final editor.

Thematic Research Coordinators undertook initial country report edits for Landmine Monitor Report 2006 from April to June 2006. Thematic Research Coordinators edited country updates for Landmine Monitor Report 2006, led by four principal editors: Stephen Goose (ban policy), Stuart Maslen (mine action), Sebastian Kasack (mine risk education), and Katleen Maes (survivor assistance). Katarzyna Derlicka, Rachel Good, Mark Hiznay and Mary Wareham (ban policy); Yeshua Moser- Puangsuwan (non-state armed groups); Nick Cumming-Bruce, Karolina Guay and Melissa Sabatier (mine action); and Patricia Campbell and Hugh Hosman (survivor assistance), provided editing support.

Ian Doucet (Final Editor) provided final editing from May to July 2006 with assistance from Jackie Hansen (Project Manager), Maureen Hollingworth (Editing Consultant), Taryn Burul and Ann- Marie De Araujo Viana (Project Support Officers), Brad Engelsma and Anna Keegan (Mines Action Canada interns) and Christine Pothier (Proofreading Consultant). Paul Hannon of Mines Action Canada provided proofreading support.

Jackie Hansen served as Project Manager for report production. Ann-Marie De Araujo Viana and Taryn Burul formatted the report. Mines Action Canada was responsible for the printing of Landmine Monitor Report 2006. Vision WT provided the online version of the report at www.icbl.org/lm/2006. Rafael Jiménez and Glenn Ruga provided design. Digital Interactive produced the CD-Rom version of the report. Many individuals and organizations responded promptly and generously to our call for photographs for inclusion in the Executive Summary.

Last, but never least, we extend our gratitude to Landmine Monitor donors and supporters. Landmine Monitor’s contributors are in no way responsible for, and do not necessarily endorse, the material contained in this report. It was only possible to carry out this work with the aid of grants from:

We also thank the donors who have contributed to the individual members of the Landmine Monitor Editorial Board and other participating organizations.
