Katleen Maes

Katleen Maes is currently based in Ghent, Belgium. She has been with Landmine Monitor and Handicap International since April of 2004, working as a researcher for the Victim Assistance team before becoming the Victim Assistance Coordinator and Editor. Katleen's previous experience includes a stint as a Middle East Associate for the International Crisis Group (ICG) in Washington and Brussels. She holds degrees in Arabic and Islamic Studies as well as Conflict and Sustainable Peace. This professional and educational background has allowed Katleen to become fluent in English, French, German and Dutch, her native language; in addition, she reads some Spanish and Farsi and is currently working on improving her Arabic. When not working for Landmine Monitor and HI Katleen volunteers with Amnesty International and the Platform for International Cooperation for Undocumented Migrants.
