Eighth Annual Landmine Monitor Report Released at the United Nations

Landmine Monitor Report 2006, the eighth report of this civil-society reporting network, was release globally today during a press conference at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Over 25 journalists from wire services, print publications, television and radio, took note of the global findings of the report. The event received extensive coverage in publications around the world, including all major wire services.

 

The event was hosted by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and chaired by Landmine Monitor Project Manager Jackie Hansen.

Steve Goose of Human Rights Watch and head of the ICBL delegation to the Seventh Meeting of States Parties, being held next week in Geneva, presented the mine ban policy and survivor assistance findings. Landmine Monitor Final Editor Ian Doucet released the mine action and mine action funding data.

Members of the media asked a variety of questions, ranging from the impact of landmines in Lebanon to the consequences of decreased global mine action funding.
