Organize a Landmine Monitor Report Release Event on 21 November
Showcase the progress made in your country and the remaining challenges by organizing an event to release the major findings of Landmine Monitor Report 2008, the tenth annual Landmine Monitor report produced by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL).
The report will be globally released at a press conference on Friday 21 November at 11:30 local time (12:30 GMT) at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, and the report will be available online on 21 November at 01:00 GMT (
www.icbl.org/lm/2008). Report findings will be presented to delegates at the Ninth Meeting of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty (9MSP) on 24 November, also at the United Nations in Geneva.
The report includes information 121 countries and other areas with respect to ban policy, mine action, mine/ERW risk education, casualties, victim assistance and international support for mine action.
Why should I organize an activity to release report findings?
- It’s a great way to share report findings with media, government representatives, diplomatic community, international organizations, NGOs and the general public.
- Release events help to focus attention on progress made in your country in 2007 and the first half of 2008, and allow you focus attention on issues of concern.
- For those of you who just cannot wait until 21 November to see the major findings of the report, if you organize a report release activity you will receive the major findings of the report by email on Monday 10 November.
Who should organize events?
- Any ICBL member organization or Landmine Monitor researcher.
What activities could I organize?
- Add an article to the front page of your website with the report’s major findings and a link to
www.icbl.org/lm/2008.
- Add an article on report findings to “blogs” and social networking websites such as Facebook and MySpace.
- Submit a letter to the editor of local or national newspapers reporting on success and challenges in your country, citing report findings.
- Meet with government officials and present them with report findings.
- Circulate a press release to local, national and regional media.
- Hold a press conference at your office or a press club.
- Bring mine action operators together and share the report findings with them.
How can Landmine Monitor support my activities?
