7MSP Registration Deadline Extended to 28th August 2006

Dear Campaigners,

As of today, more than 90 campaigners have registered for the 7th Meeting of the States Parties that will be held in Geneva from the 18th to the 22nd of September 2006.
We would like to inform you that the ICBL is extending the registration deadline to Monday 28th of August. If you want to attend the 7MSP and have not yet registered, please go to the ICBL’s Registration Page. Please note that all members of the ICBL delegation must register with the ICBL.

Burma/Myanmar: Chin National Front pledges to halt mine use

Burmese non-state armed group Chin National Front, recently committed to halt the use of landmines in recognition of "the consequences for our own people and the long-term impact of landmines in the post-conflict period".

India: Non-State Armed Group declares non-use of anti-personnel mines

Non-State armed group Kuki National Organization, active in the border area between India and Burma/Myanmar, recently added its voice to the global commitment to ban landmines by signing the "Deed of Commitment" promoted by Swiss-based NGO Geneva Call.

Philippines: Bill for a Comprehensive Landmines Law

A draft Philippine Comprehensive Law on Landmines - drafted by the Philippines Campaign to Ban Landmines - is now pending before both the Philippine House and Senate. The proposed draft law will implement and reconcile the implementation of two treaties the Philippines has ratified, the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty, and the 1996 CCW Amended Protocol II.

USA: Senators seek to block first U.S. landmine production in nine years

New legislation was recently introduced in the U.S. Senate in an attempt to block Pentagon efforts to produce victim-activated antipersonnel landmines for the first time in almost a decade.
