REPORTING UPDATE

According to Article 7 of the Mine Ban Treaty, states parties must report to the
UN Secretary General "as soon as practical, and in any event not later than 180
days after the entry into force of this Convention for that State Party" on
steps taken to implement aspects of the Convention. The due date for these first
reports for the first forty countries that ratified is by the end of this month
on 27 August 1999.

If you are in or near one of these countries, please check and make sure that
your government will submit its report by this date. Request that you receive a
copy of the report when it is submitted to the UN Secretary General. Request an
electronic copy and forward it to the ICBL Coordinator.
