CAMPAIGN TO BAN LANDMNES LAUNCHES ONLINE DATABASE

As part of activities around the world to mark the second anniversary of the signing of the landmine ban treaty, Mines Action Canada, one of 90 country campaigns comprising the Nobel Peace- Prize winning International Campaign to Ban Landmines today launched the Landmine Monitor Online Database.

This database contains information about landmines in every country of the world. The information is drawn from research by more than 80 Landmine Monitor researchers from around the globe.
Landmine Monitor is an initiative by the International Campaign to Ban Landmines to monitor compliance with the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty and the humanitarian response to the global landmine crisis.
Landmine Monitor's civil society based reporting network presents its findings in an annual report and in the database.

The online database is available at http://www.lm-online.org.

"Landmine Monitor's database is a very useful tool in our efforts to monitor this complex and multi-faceted issue," says Paul Hannon, Executive Director of the Mines Action Canada coalition. "It will be invaluable to anyone trying to assess problems encountered and progress made in creating a mine-free world."

Mines Action Canada manages the design and development of the Landmine Monitor database on behalf of the Landmine Monitor.
