REPORTING UPDATE #6 16 November 1999
According to Article Seven of the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty, states parties must report to the UN Secretary General “as soon as practical, and in any event not later than 180 days after the entry into force of this Convention for that State Party” on steps taken to implement aspects of the Convention.
To date twenty-seven reports have been received by the UN SG and posted by the Dept. Disarmament Affairs to the Internet at: http://domino.un.org/Ottawa.nsf
They are Austria, Belgium, Belize, Benin, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Holy See, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Jordan, Macedonia, Mexico, Niue, Norway, Senegal, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and U.K.
Dozens more countries are late in submitting their reports (see attached list). If you are in or in contact with one of these countries, please check to see why they are late.
