Reporting Update #2 - 1 Sept. 1999

The Department of Disarmament Affairs has received article seven submissions to date from Austria, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, Macedonia, Denmark, France, Germany, Jordan and UK. Bulgaria's report is supposed to on its way and it takes time to receive all the applications according to DDA.
By mid-Sept. the submissions will be posted on the web site of the DDA -

According to Article 7 of the Mine Ban Treaty, states parties must report to the UN Secretary General "as soon as practical, and in any event not later than 180 days after the entry into force of this Convention for that State Party" on steps taken to implement aspects of the Convention. The due date for these first reports for the first forty countries that ratified is by the end of this month on 27 August 1999. The countries that have missed the deadline follow. If you are in or near one of these countries, please find out why they are late and encourage them to report to the UN Secretary General now.
