ICBL seeks an Administrative Assistant (maternity leave replacement)

The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), launched in 1992, brings together over 1,400 human rights, humanitarian, children’s, peace, disability, veterans, medical, humanitarian mine action, development, arms control, religious, environmental, and women’s groups in over 70 countries who work locally, nationally, regionally, and internationally to ban antipersonnel (AP) landmines and cluster munitions. The ICBL was awarded the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize.

The ICBL is currently seeking a dynamic, motivated, well organized and experienced person to provide administrative and logistical support to the ICBL staff.

Position Title: Administrative Assistant

Location:Geneva, Switzerland.

Reporting Relationships: the Administrative Assistant will report directly to the Executive Director of the ICBL and may be required to supervise interns or volunteers.

Contract Period: from January until August 2008.

Starting date: 14th January 2008.

Required Profile: Swiss valid working permit preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
  • Provide administrative support to the ICBL Executive Director and other staff, as appropriate and required, including on financial matters for the Geneva office;
  • Coordinate office administration systems, procedures and logistics;
  • Manage the ICBL databases;
  • Draft letters, reports and web content;
  • Help maintain ICBL website and provide technical support to campaigners for its use;
  • Support ICBL staff with organization and preparation of missions and conferences;
  • Disseminate information and respond to information requests;
  • Organize and follow-up on the work of interns and volunteers.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be self-motivated, well organized, experienced, able to function under pressure and to handle numerous tasks simultaneously. The candidate must be willing to take initiative, work independently with minimum supervision as well as function as a member of a team, have strong inter-cultural communication skills and the willingness to travel. The candidate should preferably have a good knowledge of the Swiss administration and regulations.

The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French, be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills and computer literacy, including working knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, Email, Internet and willingness to learn web posting.
