The Landmine Ban: A Case Study in Humanitarian Advocacy

Academic Don Hubert compares the process to ban landmines to
similar historical cases, such as the dum dum bullet, the International
Criminal Court, child soldiers and small arms. He assesses the key
factors leading to the success of the campaign against landmines and
whether the campaign can be reproduced for other humanitarian
causes, such as enhancing restrictions on the production and use of
weapons and strengthening the legal protection afforded to civilians in
armed conflicts.
