Report on Activities: Ban Landmines Week, Washington, DC, USA

Washington, DC Mayor Anthony Williams proclaimed the first week of
March 2001 as "Ban Landmines Week." This was the first time that the
International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) held an international
gathering in the USA. Throughout the city, ICBL and United States
Campaign to Ban Landmines members joined together to organize
events, training sessions and meetings to promote and publicize the
campaign against landmines within the US. 180 participants from 90
countries attended, as well as 200 US activists from 46 of the 50
states. The events coincided with the Third General Meeting (GM) of
the ICBL and the 2001 Landmine Monitor Global Researchers Meeting.
The GM adopted the 2004 Action Plan, a comprehensive plan
challenging the coalition to accomplish its goals as quickly as possible
and recommitting itself through the First Review Conference in 2004.
The Report on Activities includes press releases, media clippings from
the week, a list of participants and the GM Final Statement and 2004
Action Plan.
