Final Statement: 1998 General Meeting of the ICBL

The German Initiative to Ban Landmines hosted the International
Campaign to Ban Landmines' (ICBL) first General Meeting of member
NGOs and country representatives from 20-22 February 1998 in
Frankfurt, Germany. A total of 70 participants from 40 countries met
to identify advocacy priorities and take decisions on structure and
finances. Prior to the opening, the participants demonstrated in front
of the Rhein Main Air Base to call on the United States to remove its
antipersonnel landmines stockpiled in Germany. The Final Statement
summarizes the priority areas of work for the ICBL for 1998 and the
structural decisions taken, including the establishment of a new
coordination committee, working groups and coordinating team, as
Jody Williams relinquished her role as coordinator at this meeting
