Seminaire Interafricain Des ONG Sur La Problematique Des Mines Antipersonnel

After the opening for signature of the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty, the
International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) campaigned globally
for universal treaty ratification. The Inter-African Landmines NGO
Seminar ("Seminaire Interafricain Des ONG Sur La Problematique Des
Mines Antipersonnel"), was held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 3-
5 June 1998, prior to a Summit of Heads of State of the Organization
of African Unity. It was important in promoting the Mine Ban Treaty
amongst the numerous signatories on the heavily-mined African
continent. In September 1998, Burkina Faso became the 40th country
to ratify the Treaty, triggering entry into force 1 March 1999. This
report includes notes from each of the conference seminars, a Plan of
Action and a Final Statement.
