After the opening for signature of the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) campaigned globally for universal treaty ratification. The Inter-African Landmines NGO Seminar ("Seminaire Interafricain Des ONG Sur La Problematique Des Mines Antipersonnel"), was held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 3- 5 June 1998, prior to a Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of African Unity. It was important in promoting the Mine Ban Treaty amongst the numerous signatories on the heavily-mined African continent. In September 1998, Burkina Faso became the 40th country to ratify the Treaty, triggering entry into force 1 March 1999. This report includes notes from each of the conference seminars, a Plan of Action and a Final Statement.
