Following three decades of civil war, Angola was one of the world's most mine-affected countries. In order to educate the citizens of Angola of the danger of landmines, the United Nations Children's Fund initiated mine awareness programmes, mostly in schools, in the late 1990s. This report evaluates the success of these mine awareness programmes and concludes that children who were exposed to mine awareness programmes were less likely to be injured by landmines.
