"Crossing the Divide" examines village demining, the phenomenon in Cambodia and elsewhere, where mine-affected communities take matters into their own hands and clear their lands of this scourge. It is based on field research conducted by Handicap International Belgium in 2000. The author provides the first serious research on the problem of village demining, the people involved and heightened awareness on the need for this problem to be incorporated into mine action practices. When released at the Fifth Meeting of States Parties (5MSP) in Bangkok, Thailand, this book stirred debate in the mine action community on the need to address this growing problem.
