Published in October 1993, by the Arms Project of Human Rights Watch and Physicians for Human Rights, "A Deadly Legacy" represented the first comprehensive report on the global landmines crisis. It includes case studies of seven severely mine-affected countries, as well as chapters on development and use, production and trade, medical and social consequences, mine clearance, an analysis of international law governing antipersonnel mines and a description of initiatives to control the weapon. The report concludes with a call for a ban on antipersonnel mines and has appendices including information about the newly-launched International Campaign to Ban Landmines, congressional testimonies and draft legislation. It also includes photographs and drawings.
