The German Initiative to Ban Landmines hosted the International Campaign to Ban Landmines' (ICBL) first General Meeting of member NGOs and country representatives from 20-22 February 1998 in Frankfurt, Germany. A total of 70 participants from 40 countries met to identify advocacy priorities and take decisions on structure and finances. Prior to the opening, the participants demonstrated in front of the Rhein Main Air Base to call on the United States to remove its antipersonnel landmines stockpiled in Germany. The Final Statement summarizes the priority areas of work for the ICBL for 1998 and the structural decisions taken, including the establishment of a new coordination committee, working groups and coordinating team, as Jody Williams relinquished her role as coordinator at this meeting.
