Jody Williams

Jody Williams was awarded the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the
International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) for her role as the
ICBL's founding coordinator. Under her guidance, the ICBL coalition grew
from a group of 6 organizations to a global network of over 1,000
members in 60 countries. In her speech, Williams explains how, in the
words of the Nobel Committee, the ICBL "started a process which in the
space of a few years changed a ban on antipersonnel mines from a vision
to a feasible reality" and how "this work has grown into a convincing
example of an effective policy for peace."
