For the first five years, there were annual meetings of States Parties. These meetings were especially important to insure momentum toward the complete elimination of antipersonnel mines and to provide an opportunity to address any weakness in the treaty.
The first Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty will be held five years after entry into force, in 2004. After this date, further review conferences can be convened every five years or if one or more States Parties requests it.
