Do I need a Kenyan visa?

How do I apply for my Kenyan visa?

• If there is a Kenyan Embassy or Consulate in your country, please take the attached letter from the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nairobi Summit invitation from the United Nations to the ICBL, and your ICBL invitation letter with you to the Embassy or Consulate and apply for your Kenyan visa. This will be issued free of charge.
• If there is not a Kenyan Embassy or Consulate in your country, please take for Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nairobi Summit invitation from the United Nations to the ICBL, and your ICBL invitation letter with you on your flight. It will allow you to board flights and receive transit visas and you will receive a Kenyan visa free of charge upon arrival at the airport in Nairobi.
• Note: Non-sponsored participants have not received invitation letters from the ICBL. Participants from North America and Europe should not need invitation letters to get visas. Other non-sponsored participants will be emailed invitation letters from the ICBL shortly. If you do not receive a letter and need one please email nairobisummitSPAMFLTER@SPATMFLTERicbl.org.

Do I have to pay for my Kenyan visa?

• NO. Your visa will be issued free of charge, either at an Embassy in your country or at the Nairobi airport.

Do I need a transit visa?

• Please check your travel itinerary and then look at transit visa requirements.
• You are responsible for applying for all transit visas and you must pay for these visas.

What documents should I bring with me to apply for visas and board flights?

• Bring the following documents with you when applying for visas and boarding flights:
  • Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa waiver letter
  • Nairobi Summit invitation from the United Nations to the ICBL
  • Participant invitation letter from the ICBL (if necessary)
• Only sponsored ICBL participants have received ICBL invitation letters. If you require an invitation letter to support visa applications please request one by contacting nairobisummitSPAMFLTER@SPATMFLTERicbl.org.
• Sponsored ICBL participants and non-sponsored participants (excluding North America and Europe) will also receive copies of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa waiver letter and the Nairobi Summit invitation from the United Nations to the ICBL by fax. Other non-sponsored participants requesting a faxed copy of these documents should contact nairobisummitSPAMFLTER@SPATMFLTERicbl.org.

Do Kenyan embassies and airlines know about Nairobi Summit visa arrangements?

• The Kenyan MFA has notified all embassies and airlines that Nairobi Summit participants, including ICBL members, will receive free visas in Nairobi.

How long can I stay in Kenya without a visa?

• ICBL members can remain in Kenya for 30 days without a visa. If you plan to stay in Kenya for more than 30 days you are responsible for securing the necessary visas.

Do I need a yellow fever vaccination to visit Kenya?

• All visitors to Kenya coming from infected areas require a yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter the country. Click here for a list of yellow fever infected countries.
• Visitors should be vaccinated at least 10 days prior to departure for Nairobi.

What about visa payments and departure taxes?

• Kenyan visas will be issued at the Nairobi airport free of charge.
• Transit visa fees will NOT BE waived.
• All participants are required to pay a 1,600 Ksh/ $20 US fee when exiting the country. This fee will NOT be waived.
• For sponsored ICBL guests, your transit visa and yellow fever vaccination fees (only for participants in affected countries) will be reimbursed if you bring all payment receipts with you to Nairobi.
