People

It is my strong belief that mines, which may be exploded by the presence or proximity of a person, are morally unacceptable. I fully support the convention on the prohibition of the use, stockpiling, transfer and production on anti-personnel mines and on their destruction.

Through their signature, governments promise to officially adopt and ratify the Ottawa Treaty and to comply with all of its terms. These include support for global demining work and assistance for mine victims. Through my signature on the People's treaty, I commit to working to ensure that governments keep these promises.

3956 people have signed the treaty.

When it comes to landmines it's a very big issue. During a war landmindes are planted in the ground. Some soldiers step on them lose limb/libs or die. But when the war is over, not all the landmines have been steped on so they are still untouched. 10,000 kids under the age of 15 die each year by steping on landmindes. A lot of kids who are playing in fields don't see the landmines. They might be running or playing and they step on one. They maybe lose limb/limbs or they don't survive the blow. I think the government should do something about this. I think the government should secure the places whith signs or anything that makes people stop going to the places that have landmindes planted.

I think the state of landmines are horrible.<br>They should really ban them from the world, but this is not happening. The best way is to stop doing war against each other. I don't know why war is so necessary. We should talk it over than just fight.

10,000 kids under 15 years old dies from landmines every year. A lot of kids can step on a landmine while they're playing tag or hide&amp;seek! A kid so happy, running around on the field and just for stepping on a piece of metal and they lose their leg or even die? It won't be fair for the kids... They were'nt the ones who started the war... were they?

What is wrong with us? There is absolutely no excuse for the use let alone continued manufacture of such an evil product. It's that simple. Get angry, demand action!

If war, and weapons, really were a solution to the problems faced by peoples of the world, then the hundreds of thousands of conflicts throughout history should have made peace a living reality long before now. In point of fact, they solve nothing, and the blood of every generation's children still soak the battlefields. We must demand the implimentation of peaceful means, and a cessation of the tacit approval given by so-called civilised nations for the use of violence and weapondry that target the innocent and guilty indiscriminantly.

all companies that foster the manufacture of not just landmines but all forms of explosives should be boycotted and their names made transperant and easily accessible for people to make an informed choice by not purchasing these companies products. the human rights website provides lists of which companies make what kind of bombs, explosives etc., et al. i wish well all those who continue to demine in the world and all those who have suffered immeasurable cruelty.
